Let Freedom Ring!

As we, the People of the United States, through our delegated elected officials continue to incarcerate children separated from their parents who were attempting to enter our borders, let us pause to think about this on the day we celebrate national independence.

These photos were released by the U.S. government. My source here.

Previous administrations did detain unaccompanied minors in similar facilities until legal processing was completed.

What is new is trump's zero tolerance of anyone seeking to cross including those legally seeking asylum from violence and tyranny in other lands and some U.S. Citizens seeking to return. Also, the separation of children from their parents is new.

Let me be very clear. This is unnecessary, unlawful, and immoral. trump's "policies" direct this with the full support of Homeland Security officials and private contractors who are paid for "housing" these children. Congress has abdicated its Constitutional responsibility. trump is playing to the worst impulses of racism in his heart and in his political base, still a minority of the U.S.

trump's recent executive order does not have the force of law and has little effect.

U.S. Catholic Bishops

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Texas Tribune provides a list of many other organizations seeking to help these children with aid and legal services.

My ancestral immigrants were all here in the United States of America by 1887, the year Emma Lazarus wrote her poem that is still on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

The photo is from the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. I still work for the Department.
