Whether it's preparation for the solstice, the Hannakuh celebration of ights, family fun festivities, or the Christmas Spirit, there is something about the glory of light when the world turns dark and cold.
This morning while waiting in the Bountiful Temple to do some volunteer work, I noted how bright the room was. While there are sacred ordinances not shared on the outside, there is nothing in the Temple done in the dark. There were scriptures handy and I read this:
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Romans 13:12."Armor of light." I really like that idea. It's especially needed at this time of year.
So what is this "Armor of light?" Well, while reciting numerous possible sins in violation of commandments, Paul eventually sums it up in that chapter of Hebrews that Love is the fulfillment of the Law. How we get there doesn't seem to be all that easy, but I think it's not a check-list. Even Paul got over that.
So, getting back to simple Math:
LIGHT = LOVE
I hope my kids and neighbors get that with the lights.
Technically, only the northern part of the world "turns dark and cold" this time of year. I keep seeing FB postings from Brazil and New Zealand where it is warm and light. Ai, ai, ai!
